The last few months have been challenging at home, work and at the Mission. With My’s health needs and the attention her condition warranted, one of the things I wasn’t able to dedicate time to was the website. I’m hoping that will change this year and I aim to try getting you more information and photos over the next few weeks. I am in the process now of converting the past few newsletters into files most people will be able to view. Those newsletters should be present by the end of the week and I am hoping to start adding photos on a regular basis too.

One last thing I want to say is thank you all for your prayers, love and support. They have been a great comfort to us over the last few weeks since My went to see the Lord.

My and Jerry traveled up to Seattle on June 4th to visit a specialist at Virginia Mason. After a morning filled with tests, they were able to sit down with the Doctor. The news he gave was not encouraging.

To give you a little back history, My had her adrenal gland removed May 2008. The gland had swollen up from its original size of a pea to something about as large as an egg. A biopsy was performed and they determined it was cancerous. However, they found no further indication of growths in My at that time; they would perform another check in January 2009. After that followup in January and a few other tests, they found that the tumor had come back. My had been taking a treatment to kill off the growth, however, in the 2 months of her treatment, the cancer grew at a tremendous rate.

This trip to Seattle last week gave a very clear picture of where the cancer has spread. It is impacting her diaphragm and grown into her liver, kidney and pancreas. The doctor said they could remove the growth, however, it wouldn’t significantly change her prognosis and would result in a lot of discomfort and pain after the removal.

It is not news that one wants to hear.

We are asking all of My’s friends to pray for her and her cancer. We highly encourage spreading the request to as many people who will hear about her and will pray for her. My and Jerry both serve a Lord who is the Creator of all and certainly can heal her! We ask you to pray that God’s Will be done and that His Hand moves among My, Jerry and the people who love them.

As you can imagine, there is a great amount of worry and concern within Satus Indian Mission and the McNew family. It is only through the graciousness of the Lord’s people that My and Jerry have been able to work among the Native Americans for so long and right now, a lot of that work has been slowed down as My goes to tests, appointments and times of rest. However, as My’s options for treating her cancer are shrinking, both My and Jerry have placed their trust and love in the Lord and continue to share the Good News!

Please continue to pray for My and her health. Through the years of serving God, My and Jerry have experienced time and again the love, graciousness and generosity of the family of God! The work at Satus Indian Mission has continued, despite My’s health needs. However, between her mounting medical costs and a reduction in contributions due to the economic downturn, Satus Indian Mission is entering a very challenging economic situation. While each offering from each person or church is praised, the projections show that there will be shortfalls in the near term! We humbly ask that each friend of the Mission and the McNews pray about what they may be able to do to help with these financial burdens. Even if you are unable to contribute on a regular basis, an one-time gift would be appreciated and praised!

May God’s wonders never cease!

As you can imagine, things have been busy here at Satus Indian Mission so it has been a long time since I’ve had the opportunity to let you know about what’s going on here.

One of the reasons this website hasn’t been updated in a while is that our Internet connection has been with dial-up for several years. That has changed with a new high-speed connection from our local provider. Instead of waiting for minutes for a single page to download, it takes just a few seconds; Praise God for technological advances. You should be seeing more updates on this site throughout the summer.

For those of you who might not know, My had to go into the hospital for a procedure to remove her adrenal gland last month as it was several times larger than it was supposed to be. She went through the procedure very well and the doctors are very pleased with her progress after the operation. She has been healing slowly and steadily, but she is getting antsy to get back to doing things the way she used to. Continue to pray for her healing and the results of the biopsy on the gland that was removed; the doctors were going to perform one to check for cancer.

This summer looks to be another busy year with all of the events we have planned. Right now, we have some of our regular events that we will be attending, like the Oregon Christian Convention in Turner, Oregon and Wi-Ne-Ma Week of Missions on the Oregon coast. We also have a couple of youth/mission groups from supporting churches that will be assisting the work here. We just want to praise God for all the lives we connect to and impact.

I am keeping busy with memorials and visiting people as they ask. However, with My recuperating still, I find that my time is limited doing some of these. There’s a lot of work here still and we continue to see signs of the harvest that is to come here.

Continue to pray for us as the rising costs for food and gas are starting to impact our available funds. Also continue to pray for the hearts and the receptiveness of the Yakama people as we continue to minister to them.

It’s now 2008. A new year of opportunities and challenges…

In the name of the Lord, we greet you in this new year, hoping that the Lord’s hand be on the things you do!

The year is starting with some activity. As you know, the Thanksgiving and Christmas season is very busy for us on the mission field. Not only are the normal, routine things needing to be done–memorials, funerals, counseling, sharing–we also had special events to mark God’s gift to the world…

Normally, January is a month that is one of renewing the body and spirit…to get ready for the entire year and prepare for it. This year will be different as My will be going into surgery soon. If you haven’t heard, there is something wrong with her adrenal gland… The doctors will be removing it as it is enlarged (normally, it is something the size of a peanut…My’s is the size of an egg!) but they are needing to perform a biopsy on it, to make sure what it is. We ask for your prayers as she goes through this procedure.

After that, the recovery may take some time, as there have been other health issues My has been facing. So the beginning of our new year will be quite different than years past.
